Last Friday, Dec 22nd, I spent $655.55 on Walter. MP and I were running errands and stopped for fast food. Walter was in the back of our SUV leaning across across the console in order to beg for fries. He had eaten a dog biscuit he got in the drive-thru and as we were driving away he suddenly leaned to his right, his eyes glazed over and his tongue lolled out. I pulled over and rolled him off the console and lay him flat in the back of the vehicle. Happily, we were near our vet's office so we headed there and as I looked back at Walter I noticed he had rolled onto his sternum and his head was up. Within 5 minutes we reached the vet's office and I carried him in and asked for an emergency appt. By that time he seemed to be feeling much better and when the vet examined him he seemed to be acting normally. My guess is that whatever happened was caused by putting abnormal pressure on his sternum and diaphragm combined with the heat in the vehicle. However, I am not a doctor so I left him there for radiographs of his heart, CBC, blood pressure testing and urinalysis. When I picked him up an hour later our the vet said that there was nothing unusual in any of the tests which was reassuring. We did talk, however, about possible causes of the episode and my thoughts about how much I would want to put him through should he turn out to have a cardiac problem. The cost of the exam included an emergency walk-in fee, the aforementioned tests and consult with external radiologist. YTD Expenses: $7491.52.
